Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat – Story
According to Brahmanda Purana, Lord Shri Krishna told the tale of Mokshada Ekadashi to Yudhishthira, the Pandava king.
As per the story, the ruler of Champakanagar city, Vaikhanasa was of saintly nature. He treated his subjects with respect and kindness. Once the king foresaw in his dream that his late father was condemned to the fire of hell and was going through excruciating pains. Obsessed with the nightmare, the king called up the meeting of his ministers and sought their advice about how to liberate his father from Hell and ensure his salvation. On being advised to consult an omniscient saint named Parvata Muni, the king met him and told him of his problem. At this, the saint reasoned out why his father suffered the hellish treatment after his death, as he had coitus with his wife when she was undergoing a menstrual cycle, despite her vehement protests. Thereafter, the saint suggested a remedial course of action for liberating the king’s late father from Hell, saying the king must observe Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat. The king was told that the divine power of the vrat would eventually grant his late father’s soul a divine salvation. The king followed the advice of the saint wholeheartedly. Eventually, his late father attained divine salvation and went to heaven.
Conclusion Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat is a pious and religious day. The devotees of Lord Vishnu observe a fast the whole day and offer prayers to the lord for peace, happiness, prosperity, and salvation. If followed religiously, Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat can be a great remedial measure for a devotee to remove the sins and attain greater joys, in terms of worldly pleasure and Moksha (salvation).
