According to the Ramayana, during the exile of Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Mata Sita, an unfortunate at Panchvati (where the family resided) led to the abduction of Mata Sita, prompting both brothers to search for her until they met Sugreeva, the king of monkeys. The friendship between Rama and Sugreeva was facilitated by Lord Hanuman, who, later, flew to Lanka and brought the news about Mata Sita to Rama, which then followed a pitched battle between Rama and his army of monkeys and Ravana and his army of devils.
